Panel 1: A runner gets up beside second base after a hard slide, with a bleeding knee. Sam stands across the infield. No dialogue.
Panel 2: Sam is suddenly beside him, raising a hand to stop play. Sam: ‘Time. You're bleeding.’ Runner: ‘It's just a scratch.’
Panel 3: Close on Sam, very still and looking down toward the knee. One tiny fang tip shows. Sam: ‘Cover it. Please.’
Panel 4: The runner jogs back with the injured knee wrapped in a large white bandage. Sam relaxes and resumes play. Sam: ‘Play ball.’
An ordinary guy. Mostly.
Sam calls the game. The rest of his life is harder to explain.
