Family Tradition

Read the transcript
Panel 1. Before the game, Duane presses an old black-and-white photo against the screen for Sam to see. Duane: “My grandpa, right here, 1958! He said the umps were blind back then too!”
Panel 2. Close on the old photo: a young man in the stands, mouth wide open, yelling at home plate. Behind the catcher, where the umpire should be, there is nobody. No dialogue.
Panel 3. Sam looks at the photo for a long moment. Sam: “Loud man.” Duane: “The loudest!”
Panel 4. Duane tucks the photo away, proud. Sam pulls down his mask. Duane: “Family tradition.” Sam: “I know.”
An ordinary guy. Mostly.
Sam calls the game. The rest of his life is harder to explain.
