Panel 1. Before dawn, the car sits on the shoulder with its hazard lights blinking while Sam works quickly at the jacked-up wheel. Jeff: “Need a hand?” Sam: “No.”

Panel 2. A thin line of dawn light spreads along the eastern horizon beyond the stopped car. No dialogue.

Panel 3. With the tire changed, Sam opens the rear door and climbs into the back seat. Sam: “Somebody else drives.” Brad: “Huh?”

Panel 4. In full morning sun, Tyler drives. Sam is completely covered by a pile of the crew’s jackets in the back seat, with a cap on top. Tyler: “It’s eighty degrees.” Sam, from under the jackets: “I run cold.”

An ordinary guy. Mostly.

Sam calls the game. The rest of his life is harder to explain.
